The Child Health Questionnaire™ family of health surveys contains PRO and ObsRo instruments of varying lengths that help assess the health-related quality of life for children and adolescents from 5 to 18 years of age. The CHQ-CF45 short-form survey and CHQ-CF87 full-length survey are PRO versions to be completed by children themselves that offer scores at the concept or scale level. The CHQ-PF28 and CHQ-PF50 are ObsRo parent-reported versions measuring 14 unique physical and psychosocial concepts with scores that can be analyzed at the concept level (CHQ Profile Scores), or combined to derive an overall physical and psychosocial score (CHQ Summary Scores).
Completion time for children and parents vary depending on the chosen survey, with the CHQ-CF45 seeing an average of 11 minutes in a school-based study of grades 2 through 8 and the CHQ-PF50 requiring around 10 to 15 minutes. Response options also vary; some scales ask about health status in the last 4 weeks and other global health items question the child’s health in general or as compared to the previous year. All Child Health Questionnaire™ surveys can suit wide-ranging applications as versatile, general purpose clinical outcome assessments.
